the.ist
Written and recorded in June 2008, "the.ist" is a godless reflection on theology. Narrative at times, cathartic at others, "the.ist" was doubtless inspired by my reading of "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins at the time I wrote the material. Stylistically the collection of songs bridges the introspection of "...with good intentions" and the backbeat of "Munin" with a nod to such influences of mine as Mike Patton, the Pixies and the Beatles.

munin
"Munin" is the name of one of the two ravens who would fly out and return to Odin, a primary god in Norse mythology, with news of happenings in the world every day. The two ravens were Hugin and Munin; their names mean 'thought' and 'memory'.
Musically this piece gravitated to a more rock driven feel than anything I have written in some time. If you listen closely you hear the echoes of John Frusciante, PJ Harvey and even Aimee Mann buried within the songs. Having been teaching bass and guitar for several months at the time of this recording, the guitar took a much more prominent role than in the songs on "...with good intentions".
This project was put together for the 2008 RPM Challenge. I entered into it with no preconceptions as to what I would have at the end other than to create something within the alloted time constraints. As fate would have it, my grandfather passed away at the end of January. My relationship with him was difficult to describe at best, but nonetheless profound. His passing undoubtedly colored the songs presented here.

...with good intentions
Begun while still in Portland, Oregon, this CD is an amalgamation of styles ranging from the sparse and nostalgic demeanor of "The World Missed You" to the meshing of the acoustic and the electronic in "Lucky You". This piece is very introspective.
The songs are simply songs. I never intended to create these songs in way that could be reproduced live. This album is just one interpretation of them.
